New children’s hospital for Sioux Falls, South Dakota
The facility will provide neonatal and paediatric services to families across five US states, drawing from across Avera Health’s wider network of hospitals
The Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center, in the US state of South Dakota, is due to open a new children’s hospital in early 2027.
The facility – part of a new US$165 million building at the hospital’s site in Sioux Falls – will add 220,000ft2 of floor space dedicated to neonatal and paediatric care.
The facility will also provide support for child and adolescent behavioural health services, as well as support for the families of patients.
The children’s hospital was funded through a $35 million donation from philanthropist B Thomas Golisano, and will be named the Avera Golisano Children’s Hospital in recognition of the gift.
The new hospital will support Avera Health’s wider healthcare system, spread across the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska.
The University of Texas recently announced plans to establish a new medical centre at its Austin campus earlier this month.
