Allianz Partners adds 24/7 student support in New Zealand
Eligible Studentsafe policyholders gain 24/7 multilingual medical, mental health, and safety support beyond traditional insurance cover
Allianz Partners New Zealand is extending its international student insurance offering through a partnership with health and wellbeing platform Sonder, giving eligible policyholders access to round-the-clock medical, mental health, and personal safety support from October 2026.
Studentsafe Inbound Medical and Travel Insurance policyholders, along with family members aged 18 and over, will receive access at no additional cost. The service is designed to address the challenges associated with studying abroad, including cultural adjustment, social isolation, and navigating unfamiliar healthcare systems.
Through Sonder’s app, students can connect confidentially with registered nurses and mental health professionals by phone or chat, access personalised safety and travel alerts, and use journey monitoring and timed safety checks. Urgent situations can be escalated for additional assistance, while wellbeing resources cover topics including sleep, nutrition, and mindfulness. Support is available in more than 300 languages.
The partnership also aims to complement education providers’ obligations under New Zealand’s Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021, particularly when institutional support services are unavailable outside normal hours.
