New Tijuana hospital begins construction
Building is now underway on a second general hospital in Tijuana, Mexico, which is due to be fully operational in early 2024
The $12.1 million facility will be the second general hospital in Tijuana, and will be located in the city’s eastern Cañadas El Florido district.
It will complement the existing General Hospital, which is located in the Zona Río, closer to the city centre and the San Isidro US border crossing point.
The hospital will include 60 hospital beds, an outpatient service, a blood bank, and facilities for gynaecology and obstetrics, internal medicine, orthopaedics, paediatrics, trauma care, and surgery.
The facility is expected to be approximately 80 per cent complete by the end of the year – enough for operations to begin in December – and be fully operational early next year.
The hospital represents an important increase in healthcare capacity for the city, as the existing general hospital is currently operating at capacity.
Another hospital, currently being built by Aster DM Healthcare in Dubai, UAE, is also expected to open its doors in December.
