New ‘division hospital’ opens in Guangzhou
First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China, has opened a new ‘division hospital’ in the city’s Nansha district
The Nansha division is a 33,000m2 ‘international medical center’ which adds 1,500 more beds to the First Affiliated Hospital’s capacity.
It features excellent transport connections, including a helicopter landing pad, and is adjacent to a waterside dock. The facility is also served by a 5,100m-long automated logistics system capable of transporting medical equipment and other materials around the hospital via rail.
The hospital will operate centres for disinfection, testing, pathological diagnosis, radiotherapy and medical imaging.
According to a report by China Daily, the new hospital is ‘anticipated to serve both local people and those from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions’.
In Australia, the newly opened Victorian Heart Hospital in Melbourne announced the successful completion of its first cardiac operation last month.
