New centre established for China–Pakistan healthcare cooperation
The centre’s opening also coincided with the signing of a new strategic agreement between the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences and Zhongnan Hospital
China and Pakistan have inaugurated a new Neurosurgery Joint Training and Medical Tourism Centre in Wuhan, China, designed to support healthcare cooperation.
The centre is the result of a collaboration between Wuhan University Zhongnan Hospital, the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS), and the China Pakistan Medical Association (CPMA), designed to develop international healthcare ties.
The centre will aim to strengthen neurosurgical capacity, enhance medical education, and promote medical tourism between the two countries.
The announcement, made during the 30th Annual International Conference of the Pakistan Association of Plastic Surgeons, also saw PINS sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Zhongnan Hospital to formalise collaboration on clinical training, academic exchange, research, and patient care.
According to a report by the Associated Press of Pakistan, the centre and MoU are expected to contribute to broader collaboration under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and the development of a China–Pakistan Health Corridor.
A collection of British and Indian companies signed an agreement to support UK–India medical tourism in May last year.
