Bupa Global and Doha Insurance Group have entered a strategic partnership to offer international private medical insurance (IPMI) products and solutions in the Qatari market. As part of the agreement, Bupa Global’s existing customers will transition to Qatari insurance plans provided by Doha Insurance Group later this year. Bupa Global will continue to manage these customers’ administration services and provide access to its Blua app.

Recent regulatory changes by the Qatari government were designed to ensure that all residents and visitors have access to essential healthcare services. As part of these changes, health insurance coverage is now mandatory for all non-Qatari nationals and visitors, with employers required to enrol non-Qatari employees and their families in health insurance plans. In response, other international insurers, such as Cigna with AlKhaleej Takaful Insurance and UnitedHealthcare Global with QLM Life & Medical Insurance, have also established similar partnerships in Qatar.

Bupa Global said the partnership will deliver three plans: 

• Global health plans for individuals and families with four different levels: select, premier, elite, and ultimate
• Business health plans for small to medium-sized businesses, covering employees and their dependents, again with four levels to choose from: select, premier, elite, and ultimate
• Company health plans for large corporations to cover employees and dependents with several tiers available. 

Bupa said that Qatar’s health insurance market is anticipated to experience substantial growth in the coming years, fuelled by the country’s expanding healthcare infrastructure and rising demand for high-quality medical services. According to projections from Statista, the market’s gross written premiums are expected to reach US$1.36 billion in 2025, with an annual growth rate exceeding 7%.
