A new collaboration between BIOTRONIK, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and the German Heart Center Foundation is advancing the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital health technologies into cardiovascular medicine, with a focus on improving diagnosis, treatment, and long-term patient monitoring.

The initiative brings together academic medicine and medical technology development to explore how AI-enabled tools, simulation environments, and connected devices can support more predictive approaches to cardiac care, particularly in heart failure and rhythm disorders.

The shift towards continuous monitoring and earlier intervention reflects a broader trend in healthcare delivery that may influence risk assessment, claims prevention, and the management of patients with chronic conditions across borders.

A central feature of the partnership is the establishment of a jointly funded endowed professorship in Digital and Translational Cardiology at Charité. The role is designed to strengthen links between research and clinical practice, supporting faster translation of innovation into patient-facing therapies.

BIOTRONIK, which develops implantable cardiac devices and connected health solutions, said the collaboration would help advance the use of AI and telemonitoring in real-world clinical settings, with the aim of improving outcomes for patients with complex cardiovascular disease.

Academic partners involved in the programme emphasised the importance of combining clinical expertise with advanced digital tools to address the growing pressures on healthcare systems, while accelerating innovation in device-based therapies.

The partnership also reinforces Berlin’s position as an emerging European hub for digital cardiology, bringing together research, industry, and clinical care in one ecosystem.
