Avivo Group cracks down on diabetes
Dubai-based healthcare provider Avivo Group has unveiled grand plans to help employees lead a healthy lifestyle
Thursday 14 November marks World Diabetes Day – the global awareness campaign centred around diabetes mellitus – and the ideal day for Avivo Group to launch its Employee Health Engagement Programme, which aims to discourage an unhealthy diet and lifestyle through an array of activities and incentives, including Spread the Blue Obesity Challenge.
“Hectic schedule at the workplace makes employees’ lifestyle quite sedentary. Easy access to unhealthy food and heavy reliance on helpers or maids for housework further add to their health woes,” said Avivo Group CEO Dr Atul Anant Aundhekar. “All this can lead to diabetes. Sadly, fewer than one in four patients properly manage their health condition, resulting in more deaths each year due to the sugar-related disease.”
The World Health Organization cites diabetes as the seventh-leading cause of death across the world, and a problem that is especially prevalent in the Middle East and UAE. According to the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, the number of people with diabetes in the Middle East is expected to double within the next 30 years.
“We want to open a floodgate of healthy connect with our employees and their family members as well and create working at Avivo Group a delight,” added Dr Aundhekar. “Healthy Employees are the biggest asset to any organisation, and we want to promote our employees’ health as our core value. We are gifting Health Check-up Vouchers to employees and their family members.”
Avivo Group provides specialised healthcare services through more than 220 qualified doctors and over 1,200 employees. Its 47 healthcare assets include two highly reputed hospitals, 20 clinics, 11 dental centres, six pharmacies, six distribution centres, and two state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities.
