BDMS is known for its innovative approach to healthcare. What are the latest developments you are embracing, and why have you adopted these services/products?

BDMS seeks innovative solutions to enhance patient safety and improve our clinical outcomes, which are echoed in our core value: Beyond Excellence. We do open collaborations for co-creation and investments with Thai health-tech start-ups on solutions which range from enhancing clinical services, diagnosis tools, the treatments and even the financial aspects with insurance companies.

The latest innovations, for example, include: Precepta: artificial intelligence (AI) for X-ray, the main focus being on important Thai health issues such as lung tuberculosis, breast cancer. No commercial products on the market cover these aspects. The use of AI technology, especially machine learning and deep learning, helps analyse X-ray images more accurately and quickly, which plays a very important role in the medical field, especially radiology. PreceptorAI is a medical assistant chatbot developed in collaboration with a team of real doctors. It is used for assessing the initial symptoms of patients via LINE chat and uses medical language that is easy to understand and helps triage patients. Cariva: the large language model (LLM) for medical documentation for the Thai language.It combines with clinical documentation to enhance the Clinical Decision Support System which is augmented to just-in-time for daily patient care. Cariva can improve healthcare, especially in the areas of personalised medicine and preventive care. BDMS has invested in Cariva to develop medical AI technology and apply it to BDMS hospitals to improve patient care.

How is artificial intelligence helping or hindering your business?

Using AI at BDMS helps us to create more impactful care. Our own co-created AI allows us to obtain more specific use cases and solves our problems. Predictability, outcomes with agentic AI are in the current development pipeline. We will use our data and AI models to manage patient care more effectively. 

What should insurers and healthcare providers be doing differently when it comes to digital success in the Asian market?

We should move to proactive patient care rather than reactive care as we do. Insurers hold population data and reimbursement data but hospitals hold health data and clinical data. If we can work together with good governance I truly believe we can create better care for our patients.

What are you hoping to gain from ITIC APAC?

I will be looking for ideas and insights about the need for care on an international platform. The future now is full of challenges and is unpredictable for all of us. But no matter what happens, healthcare will always be needed.

What I will learn from ITIC APAC will help us to craft our services and produce better patient care.
