AI digital health

Infermedica, provider of an AI-driven pre-diagnostics and care coordination platform, announces its partnership with the Gothaer Group, one of Germany’s large insurance companies with around 4.3 million members

Infermedica’s AI solution Symptom Checker has been integrated within the Gothaer health app (Gesundheitsapp), providing users with health guidance and streamlining the journey to additional health services. It offers immediate orientation to the most suitable services based on the information they provide. Gothaer serves more than 667,000 health insurance customers and all users of the health app have access to the tool.

Symptom Checker is built on best-in-class AI to assess symptoms, finding dependencies and common patterns in symptom data to provide the most likely medical conditions and direct patients to the appropriate level of care. The AI engine has conducted more than 10 million health check-ups globally.

“At Gothaer, we want to empower our customers to better manage their health,” said Natascha Jahn, health manager at Gothaer. “The sheer quantity of information available on the internet can be overwhelming, so we’ve implemented Infermedica’s Symptom Checker to provide preliminary guidance. Our app users are supported with advice about conditions their symptoms are usually connected to. We’re really pleased to be working with Infermedica, its expertise was apparent throughout.”

Providing access to insurance-related services – including all aspects of claim management such as invoice submission, as well as health-related offers and information such as physician finders and appointment scheduling – Gesundheitsapp is Gothaer’s central digital point of contact with its health insurance customers.

Data protection key in digital health services

Gothaer selected Infermedica due to Symptom Checker’s usability and customisation, and the organisation’s medical and scientific background and approach to data protection. The tool uses anonymized data to calculate condition probability, meaning information cannot be linked back to specific patients.

“Gothaer is a leading insurance provider with hundreds of thousands of health insurance customers,” said Frank Neumann, DACH Business Director at Infermedica. “Ensuring that customers understand exactly which services are available, and when and how best to use them is important in empowering them to take better care of their health.”

Showcasing Infermedica’s ability to create customised solutions, it made the following adjustments to Symptom Checker to ensure a seamless Gesundheitsapp user experience:

  • The results screen has been enhanced with interactive links leading to available options within Gesundheitsapp, including its telemedicine provider and doctor finder
  • Additional user-facing screens have been developed to connect Symptom Checker and app
  • All messaging has been amended to match Gesundheitsapp’s users and German services
  • Symptom Checker’s screens have been restyled with darker colors and new illustrations.
