Looking forward, IMARC Group expects the market to reach $704.8 billion by 2033, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.08% from 2025–33. Asia Pacific currently dominates the market, holding a market share of over 25.5% in 2024.
The heightened need for affordable and effective healthcare services, rising occurrence of critical health conditions, and the increasing popularity of adopting minimally invasive cosmetic surgeries are some of the key factors driving the growth of the market.
The convergence of cost-efficiency, quality care and global accessibility
As healthcare costs continue to climb in many developed countries – particularly for elective, dental and cosmetic procedures – more patients are turning to medical tourism in search of affordable alternatives. Offering savings of between 30 and 70%, even when factoring in travel and accommodation, overseas treatment often comes without compromising on quality.
Specialisation and innovation: the rise of destination-based treatments
Medical tourism is increasingly shaped by specialisation, with countries positioning themselves as leaders in particular treatments where they excel in cost, outcomes or innovation. Destinations are developing reputations in fields such as cosmetic surgery, fertility care, orthopaedics, cardiology and dental procedures – supported by growing expertise and dedicated infrastructure.
The increasing role of technology and digital integration in patient experience
Online platforms now provide comprehensive details on destinations, healthcare providers and treatment costs, empowering patients to make informed decisions with confidence. Telemedicine has made remote consultations accessible and convenient, helping to build trust and enable better preparation before travel.
Social media and online reviews are also shaping patient choices and expectations, while giving providers valuable feedback to refine services and strengthen their reputations, the report said.
Turkey’s Liv Hospital Group recently signed a strategic partnership with Georgian insurance provider ARDI Insurance to facilitate international medical tourism.
