Koc Healthcare

The HealthPassClub brand launched by Koç Healthcare is one of the first comprehensive healthcare services entirely accessible on a digital platform which is offered to Turkish citizens residing in the US. Bahadır Cüneyt Şenel, Chief Physician and Director of International Patient Programs, talks to ITIJ

Could you please tell us about Koç Healthcare?

Koç Healthcare could be described as a health ecosystem that unites the most prominent healthcare institutions in Türkiye in one place and steers the healthcare industry. American Hospital, Bodrum American Hospital, Koç University Hospital, American Outpatient Center and VetAmerican Pet Hospital, all part of Koç Healthcare, are among the leading healthcare institutions of Türkiye. American Hospital, which was founded in 1920 and currently stands out with over 100 years of experience, has always provided services at the highest level of quality with high nursing quality and advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies.

Koç Healthcare takes innovative strides in health, rendering more effective and accessible treatments accessible to patients. Investing in advanced medical technologies and novel treatment approaches, primarily in the fields of pulmonary, colonic and gynaecological cancers, we provide healthcare services at an international level. The most notable example would be our recently realised collaboration with Mayo Clinic. As members of Mayo Clinic Care Network, American Hospital and Koç University Hospital are now allowed to access all resources made available within the scope of this network.

Combined with our robust healthcare ecosystem, the investments we have made take our efforts even further. The investments made in coordination with Koç Holding continue to make a remarkable difference, now also in Antalya thanks to our collaboration with Anatolia Hospitals. We are determined to maintain our leading position in both Türkiye and the overall global healthcare industry while pushing on with novel first efforts with our investments in stem cell and tissue centres.

What is the strategy that you follow in the international healthcare industry? What can we expect as future investments?

Our International Patient Program (IPP) follows the vision of providing global healthcare services. IPP is a professional team offering international services with offices based in 12 countries, including the US, Europe, the Balkans, Azerbaijan and Georgia, and translation services in 22 languages. We serve each patient in their own language during each stage of care from the initial examination to questions and concerns about medical treatment. This requires us to closely monitor emerging healthcare trends and innovations. In addition to our investments in technologies like robotic surgery, we also invest in healthcare technologies like TytoCare, which enables us to conduct patient follow-ups while they are in their respective countries. Many patients abroad prefer us for that reason. Within this context, we have also launched a novel healthcare service, a first in Türkiye: the HealthPassClub app. The app is currently available to Turkish nationals residing in the US. However, we aim to launch this service in other countries in the near future.

With the influence of rapid technological advancements, the healthcare industry has entered an era highlighting tailored services

What was the reason for Koç Healthcare to launch the HealthPassClub project?

With the influence of rapid technological advancements, the healthcare industry has entered an era highlighting tailored services. The Covid-19 pandemic confined patients, families with children and individuals who sought comfortable healthcare services to their homes, and remote access to healthcare services became even more vital to them. Koç Healthcare has adopted an innovative approach to health, and we are accelerating our efforts aimed at facilitating healthcare access for patients and their relatives within the framework of ‘digitalisation in healthcare’. As a pioneering effort and a first among healthcare institutions, Koç Healthcare is now launching the HealthPassClub project. This novel line of service merges tailored health kits and digital platforms with the objective of providing remote healthcare especially to Turkish citizens residing abroad.

The idea of offering 24/7 accessible remote healthcare to Turkish citizens residing in the US in particular constitutes the basis of this project. We believe that the project, which is the first of its kind in terms of extending tailored healthcare services from our country to abroad on an entirely digital platform, will play a leading role in the industry.

What is HealthPassClub?

HealthPassClub consists of a personalised health kit and a digital platform. Thanks to the kits designed specifically for them to utilise the services of American Hospital – a Koç Healthcare institution – Turkish citizens residing abroad will be able to attend their doctor visits physically when they are in Türkiye, quantify their medical data, and integrate their results to the Koç Healthcare app.

What are the tailored services provided with HealthPassClub?

HealthPassClub offers an entirely personalised programme integrating remote healthcare and face-to-face services. After registering their memberships, our users are able to conduct their own physical examinations remotely with the TytoCare device, which is included in the kit provided to them, and record their medical data. HealthPassClub also enables users to enjoy privileges such as blood glucose and pressure measurements, one-on-one doctor consultations and tailored healthcare services.

Analysing their medical data, our system will be able to suggest to them personalised walking times, dietary plans, and specific recommendations for balancing blood pressure. In other words, HealthPassClub is a health guide that not only monitors users’ medical data, but also helps them regulate their daily lives over time.

When they visit Türkiye, HealthPassClub members will be able to see their physicians face-to-face and have their necessary investigations carried out at our healthcare institutions.

Could you please tell us more about the HealthPassClub membership process?

HealthPassClub serves within the scope of a special membership programme. Users may easily establish contact via healthpassclub.com or our 7/24 accessible call centre. Afterwards, they log in to the Koç Healthcare app, add their personal medical data, plan their initial doctor consultation, and start enjoying our healthcare services.
