US ends Covid-19 vaccination requirement for foreign travellers
The coronavirus health emergency has now officially ended in the country
From today (12 May 2023), international travellers to the US will not have to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
Air and ferry passengers, as well as arrivals to the country via land ports, will not be required to prove their vaccination status, whether they have had a vaccine or not.
The end of this requirement confirms that the coronavirus health emergency has officially ended in the US.
The Biden administration informed Congress of this decision in February, with the House of Representatives voting in favour of removing the remaining pandemic restrictions that month. The Homeland Security Department confirmed the move would be going ahead a few weeks ago.
In a proclamation at the beginning of May, President Biden stated: “Considering the progress that we have made, and based on the latest guidance from our public health experts, I have determined that we no longer need the international air travel restrictions that I imposed in October 2021.”
This easing of restrictions is expected to aid travel recovery post-pandemic.
