Lufthansa strike ends but is more to come?
In Germany, a two-day strike of Lufthansa cabin crew came to an end at midnight on 8 November, but the deputy chief of the flight attendant’s union ─ UFO ─ has warned that further strikes could take place.
The strike occurred over cabin crew’s pay and conditions and forced Lufthansa to cancel 1,300 flights. This meant that around 180,000 passengers’ travel plans were disrupted.
Lufthansa said that it would do everything it could to minimise the impact of the strike on its customers. It said that passengers travelling between German airports can exchange their tickets online for rail tickets, while other passengers will be offered alternative flights. “Lufthansa condemns the strike call in the strongest possible terms,” the airline said. “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
UFO spokesperson Nicoley Baublies said that the union was open to discussion but that further action would be taken if needs weren’t met, while UFO Deputy Chief Daniel Flohr said that ‘further announcements are possible at any time’.
