UAE patients given access to international telemedicine service
A new telehealth service introduced by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) allows UAE patients to consult with doctors overseas via video consultations
Sixteen hospitals in the MoHAP network are signed up for the new international telemedicine service, which aims to facilitate overseas second medical opinions for both patients and doctors.
MoHAP explains that doctors abroad will be contacted via the Microsoft Teams programme as part of the Ministry’s Visiting Consultants Programme, which intends to bring the expertise of overseas physicians to patients at MOHAP hospitals within the UAE.
Controlling infection and strengthening telemedicine services
“The newly launched service comes as part of the implementation of innovative models in the preventive health practices to control infection and strengthen telemedicine services,” said Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention.
The Visiting Consultants Programme, which was briefly paused, has since been resumed. “MoHAP’s decision to resume the Visiting Consultants Programme, despite the Covid-19 challenges, has proven to be instrumental in improving the quality of patients’ life, as well as reducing the burden of having to travel abroad,” Dr Mohammad Salim Al Olama, undersecretary of MoHAP said.
Plenty of UAE hospitals have been receiving international accreditations over the last few months. Most recently the Khorfakkan Hospital in Sharjah and Al Qassimi Hospital, also in Sharjah.
