Royal Papworth Hospital receives ‘outstanding’ rating
In the UK, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has given Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge an ‘outstanding’ rating
The hospital, which is internationally renowned for its heart and lung transplants, was visited by the CQC between 18 June and 26 July this year, and inspectors found that patients were receiving ‘outstanding service’ across all areas, including safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership.
The report noted that the staff were ‘committed and qualified’; that premises were ‘safe and clean’, ensuring that vulnerable people such as those with cystic fibrosis were protected from infection, and that process were in place to ensure staff acted quickly when people showed signs of deterioration. The CQC also praised the facility’s commitment to research and innovation.
Among the areas for improvement were staffing levels and bed capacity within the critical care unit.
"An outstanding rating is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment," said the CQC's Chief Inspector of Hospitals, Professor Ted Baker. "Underpinning this was a leadership team that prioritised putting people at the heart of their care by supporting frontline staff with the right priorities."
