New hospital opens in Rijeka, Croatia
Croatia’s Rijeka University Hospital opened a new €158 million, 70,000 square metre hospital complex on 2 February
Construction on the eight-floor complex began in 2019, and was entirely funded by the Croatian government.
The building includes a new emergency paediatric department, an emergency department for women, outpatient clinics, operating theatres, maternity wards, and intensive care units (ICU).
Other facilities include patient rooms, birthing rooms, support rooms for parents and children, as well as classrooms for the education of long-stay paediatric patients, and over 400 underground parking spaces.
The city of Rijeka is located on Croatia’s Adriatic coast – a popular tourist destination which welcomes millions of travellers every year. Travel to Croatia from other parts of Europe became easier last year after the country joined the European Union’s Schengen Zone.
