Florida’s Miami Beach enforces spring break restrictions
Security measures are being implemented in preparation for the increase in visitors
In anticipation of the annual spring break travel rush, several security restrictions have been imposed across Miami Beach city between Thursdays and Sundays until (at the earliest) 31 March. Police presence is also heightened across the city.
Restrictions include:
- Curfews
- Early closures of beach entrances
- No pavement seating on Ocean Drive (the main strip) over the busiest weekends
- Security checkpoints at beach access points
- Beach entrances on Ocean Drive limited to 5th, 10th, and 12th Streets
- Drink driving checkpoints, road closures, and other traffic restrictions.
Travellers are advised to:
- Follow local laws during curfews to avoid legal action
- Minimise safety risks by being vigilant and aware of surroundings
- Maintain transparent communication with officers at security checkpoints
- Carry national ID and proof of hotel reservations or bookings if travelling during the curfew
- Make hotel and travel reservations in advance to minimise the potential inconvenience of last-minute travel rushes
- Allocate extra time for road travel due to possible traffic congestion and plan alternative routes in case of road closures. Check with the local authorities for traffic regulations and designated parking areas.
