Figures from the Dutch Association of Insurers (Verbond Van Verzekeraars) have shown a dramatic increase in the number of fraudulent claims being identified from holidaymakers between the ages of 25 and 35. Members of the Association reported twice as many cases of travel insurance fraud in the first half of this year compared to 2016, with most of the cases concerning false claims of property theft. The increase in the dubious claims rate is not down to the fact that more people are claiming under false pretences, according to the Association, but is in fact due to the increase in vigilance and claims investigation on the part of insurers.
