BIBA renews medical travel scheme
The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) has renewed its medical travel scheme with AllClear Insurance Services for a further three years. The scheme, exclusively available to BIBA members, complements BIBA’s existing travel insurance product and extends the offering to include cover for those with pre-existing medical conditions with no age exclusions for over 75s on annual trips or over 85s on single trips.
BIBA Medical Travel will allow BIBA members to provide travel insurance to people on existing hospital waiting lists and those still undergoing medical treatment, including chemotherapy. It offers optional ‘Travelling Companion’ cover, providing others in the travelling party, not covered directly under the policy, cover if the medical condition of the insured forces them to also cancel their trip.
Steve Foulsham, BIBA’s head of technical services, added: “We are delighted to continue this important scheme which provides even greater value for members’ clients following the recently negotiated cover enhancements.” Recent enhancements to the scheme include increased cancellation limits for over 70s, the removal of a £5,000 excess for non-declaration of pre-existing condition, a new destination region with a 25 per cent base rate reduction and a 48 hour stopover period for a higher rated region without charge.
Garry Nelson, group head of marketing for AllClear Insurance Services, said that the business was clearly proud to have been re-appointed for a further three years: “With an ageing population, demand for this kind of cover has grown considerably, as evidenced by a proliferation of new providers. Given the increased competition, it is gratifying to see that AllClear, while being among the first to provide such services and a genuine thought-leader, is still the benchmark to which others aspire.”
AllClear was established in 2000 to provide cover for travellers who found difficulty in getting travel insurance due to their age or medical conditions. BIBA, responding to increasing demand from its members and customers, recognised the need to appoint a specialist travel insurance provider to augment their existing travel insurance product.
Garry added: “Having been trusted by BIBA to provide this important service since 2011, we look forward to continuing our relationship for a further three years, delivering best-in-class insurance solutions for BIBA members and their customers irrespective of those customers’ ages or medical conditions.”
