AMOMA goes into administration
Reports abound that hotel booking website AMOMA has ceased trading ‘with immediate effect’, and as a result, many travellers who have booked a trip through the site are likely to be affected by the company’s liquidation
On the AMOMA website, a company statement reads: “Cease trading notification … your booking will probably be cancelled by our suppliers.” The firm suggests that customers who have booked rooms via the site contact their hotel to check whether their reservation will be honoured, or alternatively it encourages consumers to contact their payment institution or travel insurer.
After checking with the hotel customers booked through, Guy Tanker, Deputy Editor at MoneySavingExpert.com, advises: “If your booking is cancelled, check if you can claim from your card company or travel insurer, though as the news has only just broken, it’s not yet clear if that will work for everyone, as it’s not always clear cut when hotel booking sites fail.
"That said,” continues Tanker, “paying by credit card and having good travel insurance in place as soon as you book often works to protect you when your travel plans are cancelled by an airline, hotel or travel agent. It can provide vital cover in what are turbulent times for travellers amid a spate of company failures, strikes and other recent disruption."
