First of its kind stroke hospital in Vietnam
The new Stroke International Services (SIS) Hospital in Can Tho city, Vietnam, means that local patients will no longer have to travel to Ho Chi Minh City for stroke treatment.
The hospital is the first of its kind in the Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam. The hospital’s Director Tran Chi Cuong said that the 100-bed facility was built at a cost of 500 billion VND (US$21.5 million) and possesses state-of-the-art equipment.
The hope is that the SIS Hospital will become a training centre for domestic and foreign hospitals in the cardiovascular and stroke field. It will co-operate with international medical schools and hospitals like the University of Tennessee and Erlanger Regional Stroke Centre in the US and the University of Toronto in Canada.
Dr Nguyen Huy Quang, Director of the Ministry of Health’s Legal Department, said that the hospital has opened up opportunities for people in the Mekong Delta to access high-quality medical services. Cuong added that the hospital aims to reach international standards but that its service prices will be much lower than other international hospitals.
