Vitality and Acacia launch rewards-based health insurance in Ghana
Ghana’s rewards-based group health insurance is designed to promote employee wellness through incentivised, preventative care
Vitality Health International has partnered with Acacia Health Insurance to launch a new wellness-focused group insurance product in Ghana, combining flexible coverage with rewards-based incentives aimed at improving health outcomes for employees and reducing costs for employers.
The partnership was announced at a recent roundtable in Accra, where stakeholders from across the healthcare and insurance sectors gathered to discuss the role of preventative care in shaping more sustainable health systems. Central to the offering is Vitality’s shared-value insurance model, which incentivises healthy behaviour through data-driven rewards and wellness initiatives.
“What sets our health insurance apart is its focus on wellbeing, aiming to improve people’s health outcomes while enhancing and protecting their lives,” said Emma Knox, CEO of Vitality Health International Africa. “We go beyond traditional cover by rewarding healthy habits and driving better health across Africa.”
Acacia Health Insurance, a member of Enterprise Group, will administer claims and onsite wellness services. Dr Dan V Armooh, Chief Executive of Acacia Group, said the collaboration marked a shift “from paying for illness to paying for wellness”, and promised that employers would “see the health data, feel the premium relief and watch absenteeism drop”.
A comprehensive new offering with innovative benefits
The product includes five health insurance plans with varying levels of cover, including Africa roaming and worldwide (excluding US) options. Additional benefits include a malaria benefit, wellness days, and regular screenings.
Daniel Larbi-Tieku, Group CEO of Enterprise Group, described the launch as “a natural extension of our 30-year legacy of innovation,” and said it would “raise the bar for corporate health cover in Ghana”.
Employers stand to receive up to 10% cashback for encouraging employee wellness, while staff can earn weekly rewards or donate them to vaccine initiatives.
Knox added: “Through this model, Vitality Health International is contributing towards a healthier society by making businesses and their employees healthier.”
Ghana and Morocco have signed a visa waiver agreement aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties, boosting tourism, and enhancing trade between the two countries.
