TUI Cruises cancellation disrupts travel after collision at German port
A collision with two container ships has grounded Mein Schiff 3 and cancelled its 20-night Canary Islands cruise, leaving passengers facing disrupted travel plans and potential extra costs
TUI Cruises has cancelled its scheduled Canary Islands voyage aboard Mein Schiff 3 after the vessel collided with two container ships while departing Bremerhaven on 25 October.
A sudden gust of wind reportedly pushed the cruise ship into the moored vessels, including the MSC Victorine. Bremen police confirmed significant damage to the cruise ship’s hull, lifeboats, and associated cranes. No passenger or crew injuries were reported. All three vessels were temporarily prohibited from sailing while investigations continued.
According to Cruise Industry News, 2,428 passengers were aboard the ship when the incident occurred. The cancellation leaves travellers facing disrupted holiday arrangements and potential additional expenses.
Passengers should first contact TUI Cruises to establish what refunds, alternative arrangements or other assistance are available. They should retain booking confirmations, receipts, and cancellation notices to support any insurance claim.
The incident also highlights the value of reviewing cruise cover before departure, particularly where holidays involve substantial advance payments or independently booked flights and hotels.
With repairs required before Mein Schiff 3 can return to service, uncertainty may extend to subsequent planned sailings.
