Travel Guard launches LGBTQ+ travel safety initiative
Travel Guard has launched an LGBTQ+ travel safety initiative, offering tailored guidance to support safer international travel
In celebration of Pride Month, Travel Guard has launched an expanded online educational initiative to raise awareness of the potential risks LGBTQ+ travellers may face internationally.
LGBTQ+ individuals often encounter unique safety and security challenges when travelling, particularly in countries where certain sexual orientations or gender identities are criminalised or marginalised. According to Statista, homosexuality is illegal in 68 countries. Additionally, Booking.com research shows that 59% of LGBTQ+ travellers have experienced discrimination while abroad.
Rhonda Sloan, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, commented: “Travel Guard recognises the ongoing need for greater understanding and awareness regarding safety for LGBTQ+ travellers and has developed a series of informational resources to empower this community to travel safe and smart.”
The initiative is supported by a dedicated website offering travel safety tips, destination-specific risk assessments, and advice for transgender travellers. It includes an FAQs section, links to trusted resources, and guidance on maintaining documentation and researching local laws.
The safety guide was developed in partnership with HospitableMe, which provides inclusive hospitality training to international travel brands.
This campaign is part of Travel Guard’s broader travel safety advocacy efforts, which also include initiatives focused on women’s and student travel safety.
