Pearson Ham reports shift in travel insurance pricing

New analysis reveals a marked drop in annual multi‑trip premiums, signalling a shift in insurer strategy ahead of the busy winter season

Pearson Ham Group has published its latest analysis of UK travel insurance premiums, comparing summer 2025 with summer 2024. The findings point to diverging trends between single-trip and annual multi-trip (AMT) products.

Single-trip premiums remain broadly flat year on year. Typical cover for under-40s continues to average around £16, with over-60s paying closer to £36. Family policies also show little movement, with starting prices from £39.

By contrast, AMT cover has become significantly more competitive. Premiums for under-40s have fallen 12% from £33 to £29, while couples over 60 have seen average quotes drop from above £100 to around £91.

Stephen Kennedy, Director at Pearson Ham Group, said insurers appeared to be deliberately targeting frequent travellers: “While single-trip premiums are largely static, annual multi-trip cover is becoming meaningfully cheaper. This feels like a deliberate move to encourage more travellers back into the market and to capture loyalty as overseas travel continues to normalise post-pandemic.”

He cautioned, however, that travellers must continue to review cover carefully: “Lower prices do not always mean the same breadth of cover, so travellers should review policy limits and exclusions carefully to ensure they are adequately protected should they need to make a claim.”

Pearson Ham will next report on winter travel and winter sports insurance at the end of the year. Product Manager Frances Luery noted: “Winter brings a different set of dynamics altogether. Ski cover, weather delays, and trip cancellations play a much bigger role. We expect to see continued competitive pressure in AMT pricing, but single-trip and specialist winter sports cover may show sharper fluctuations as insurers price in heightened risks.”

The consultancy’s analysis reinforces that AMT policies may now offer stronger value than multiple single-trip purchases, though consumer profile and trip type remain key determinants of premium levels.
