Oman Air embeds travel insurance through Takaful Oman partnership

The airline has added locally underwritten travel cover to its booking journey, supported by international technology and assistance providers

Oman Air has appointed Takaful Oman Insurance as its local travel insurance partner, introducing embedded cover for passengers booking through the airline.

The programme will allow travellers to purchase travel insurance during the booking process, bringing protection closer to the point of sale rather than requiring customers to arrange cover separately.

Takaful Oman will provide the sharia-compliant insurance element, while insurance platform Insurte will supply the underlying travel insurance technology.

ISA Assist has designed the wider programme, which includes reinsurance and access to international medical and travel assistance.

The agreement reflects the continued growth of embedded distribution, with airlines increasingly integrating insurance directly into digital booking journeys. The model can improve product visibility and reduce friction, while giving insurers access to customers at the point they are confirming their travel plans.

The inclusion of a local takaful provider also highlights the importance of tailoring travel insurance to regional markets.

Sharia-compliant products can broaden access among travellers seeking protection structured in line with Islamic financial principles, while the involvement of global assistance and technology partners supports delivery across international destinations.

Hamood Al Alawi, Deputy CEO of Oman Air, said: “By working with Takaful Oman, we are bringing a trusted Omani provider into our ecosystem, alongside global expertise of ISA Assist and latest technology by Insurte, to deliver a more seamless and comprehensive services for our guests.”

The launch forms part of Oman Air’s wider focus on increasing spending with domestic suppliers, while combining local underwriting expertise with international reinsurance, assistance, and technology capabilities.

The partnership reflects a wider trend of travel insurance becoming a key part of the Middle East’s tourism offering. Read our analysis here.
