More demand for international travel, says 1Cover
Despite rising demand for foreign holidays, the insurer also noted that travellers were more concerned about geopolitical unrest affecting their trip
1Cover Travel Insurance has reported that, according to its latest research, 53% of New Zealanders are planning to travel overseas in the next year, up from 49%.
Despite this shift in interest towards international travel, travellers still hold a range of concerns relating to it.
Key worries identified by 1Cover’s research include flight cancellations, lost or stolen property, and medical emergencies – all of which were concerns expressed by at least 85% of respondents.
Alongside these more conventional issues, geopolitical tensions are a rising concern for many travellers, with 84% of respondents citing it. By contrast, concerns about Covid-related expenses have now declined to 67%.
“It’s encouraging to see so many New Zealanders embracing overseas travel and feeling confident about their plans,” said Natalie Ball, Director of 1Cover Travel Insurance. “Travellers are increasingly focused on being prepared for the unexpected. Whether it’s potential disruptions, overseas conflicts or medical emergencies, people are thinking ahead and taking steps to protect their trips.”
She added: “Medical expenses remain front of mind, but travellers also want confidence that if their plans change unexpectedly, or something goes wrong, they have somewhere to turn. Ultimately, people want to feel prepared so they can focus on enjoying their holiday rather than worrying about what might go wrong.”
1Cover recently partnered with financial infrastructure firm Adyen to support its operations.
