The UK Managing General Agents’ Association (MGAA) said that its new agreement with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) puts them in a “key position to support growth”

The MGAA has announced the signing of a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the ABI, aimed at working towards greater industry collaboration.

The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration in three strategic areas:

  • Information exchange – to promote mutual understanding on key industry issues
  • Coordination of views – especially on key issues driven by governmental and regulatory bodies
  • Joint events, learning, and research.

Michael Keating, CEO of the MGAA, commented that the agreement “further solidifies our working relationship and helps foster coordination on issues that impact our members and the insurance markets”.

“Working together puts us in a key position to support the significant growth we are seeing in the MGA sector with tech-driven startup MGAs, whilst also tackling ongoing obstacles for our members such as capacity constraints, regulation and a challenging rating environment,” he added.

Hannah Gurga, Director General of the ABI, agreed, adding: “We’re looking forward to working with the MGAA and its members more closely to further promote mutual understanding, share knowledge and align on views for the benefit of the wider industry.”

New year, new strategic vision

The MGAA also announced its strategic vision for 2025, centred around three core themes.

The association stated that it aims to “embrace its role as an accessible, action-oriented, and collaborative resource for its members”.

The themes are:

  • Networking and education – the MGAA aims to continue providing members with “unique forums, events, and training opportunities” aimed at fostering “networking, industry knowledge, and innovation”, underpinned by the appointment of a dedicated Learning and Development Manager
  • High-level advocacy – the MGAA will work to “amplify the voice of MGAs on critical industry issues, including regulatory challenges and market opportunities”
  • Data-driven insights – the association aims to become a “leading aggregator of trends and statistics in the MGA sector”.

Additionally, the MGAA reaffirmed the objectives of its Next Gen Committee to represent young professionals within the MGA sector; promote training, education, and topical discussion; create networking opportunities; and contribute to MGAA initiatives and market projects that drive meaningful change.

MGAA stated that its updated mission coincides with the launch of a refreshed brand identity and updated website.

“In 2025, we aim to further elevate our role as the trusted source in providing an improving range of member benefits which both meet the needs of all members today as well as addressing and identifying new opportunities and challenges,” said Keating.

International Medical Group (IMG) released the results of its 2025 Travel Outlook Survey earlier this month.
