Indonesia planning visa-free entry scheme
A finalised list of the 20 countries covered by the scheme is expected within the next month
The government of Indonesia is considering granting visa-free entry to nationals from 20 countries, according to a report by Reuters.
This includes Australia, China, France, Germany, India, South Korea, the UK, and the US. A finalised list of countries covered by the provision is expected to be completed within the next month.
The intention of the plan is to boost the country’s tourism industry and the overall economy.
According to official data, there were 16 million foreign visitors to Indonesia in 2019, prior to the pandemic. Between January and October 2023, a total of 9.49 million visitors came to the country.
China recently cut its own visa application fees for nationals of 12 countries by 25 per cent. The country is also trialling visa-free entry for French, German, Italian, Dutch, Spanish and Malaysian citizens.
