Heathrow achieves new record for passenger traffic
Over the past 12 months London Heathrow has welcomed over 81.5 million passengers
London’s Heathrow Airport set a record for traffic in May, receiving 7.2 million travellers in one month. It is the first month in which the airport’s passenger numbers have exceeded 7 million.
The airport anticipates continued momentum over the next three months with traffic predicted to rise to 30 million passengers during the summer.
Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Heathrow, said: “We are now giving record numbers of people the chance to connect smoothly with the world. Supporting 81 million journeys doesn’t just help families to make wonderful holiday memories; importantly, it is about the vital trade and business links a hub like Heathrow creates for the UK’s economy.”
Figures show that the first five months of 2024 brought in 32.4 million passengers, a 7.9% increase on the same period in 2023.
Asia Pacific is the region with the highest growth in passengers at the airport so far this year, with an 18.4% year-on-year increase.
Recently, Heathrow added six new routes to its list with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling.
