Five killed as Dutch tour coach overturns in Swiss Alps

Five people died and 40 were injured when a Dutch tour coach overturned near Susch in Switzerland’s Graubünden canton, a popular destination for Alpine holidays.
The crash happened on Thursday between Susch and Zernez, close to the Swiss National Park. Swiss police said the coach struck a crash barrier before overturning, with no other vehicles involved. Reuters reported that three injured people were seriously hurt, seven moderately injured, and 30 sustained minor injuries. The identities of those killed were not released.
The coach was operated by Dutch tour company Oad. The Dutch Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (ANVR) said 48 passengers were on board, while Reuters, citing police information, reported 45 adults. The group had left the Netherlands earlier in the week and were making a day trip in Switzerland from Austria.
Dutch authorities said they were coordinating with Swiss officials, the tour operator, and an emergency assistance centre. A full investigation into the cause is underway.
The incident is a reminder for tourists visiting mountainous destinations that coach travel can involve risks associated with Alpine roads, weather, and terrain, making accessible emergency-assistance services important.
