CDC issues measles travel health notice for Philippines
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 1 travel health notice for measles in the Philippines
The travel health notice was issued via the US Embassy in Manila. It warned that “all travellers to the Philippines, including infants and pre-school aged children should be fully vaccinated against measles”.
Vaccinations should be done in accordance with CDC immunisation schedules.
Additionally, the advisory recommended: “If you are not sure whether you or your travel companions are fully protected against measles, schedule an appointment to see your healthcare provider at least one month before travelling so that you have enough time to get vaccinated.”
However, the CDC also warned that some people should not get a measles-containing vaccine for health reasons. They recommended that those unsure of whether a measles-containing vaccine was suitable for them should see their doctor, or consider altering their travel plans.
The advisory also recommended that US travellers check the State Department website for more information, and sign up for the department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and be easier to locate in an emergency.
The government of the Philippines announced the launch of a new E-Travel border control system in May 2023.
