Cathay Life adds automated airport lounge access for travellers facing flight disruption

The new partnership reflects growing insurer focus on providing immediate assistance during travel disruption rather than relying solely on post-trip claims

Cathay Life has partnered with Collinson International to offer eligible travel insurance customers complimentary airport lounge access when flights are delayed or cancelled, as insurers continue to expand real-time support services for travellers.

The benefit, powered by Collinson’s SmartDelay platform, is available to eligible customers in Taiwan who purchase qualifying overseas travel insurance policies online.

Travellers who pre-register their flights will automatically receive a digital voucher if an eligible flight is delayed by more than 60 minutes or cancelled, allowing access to airport lounges or other participating airport services without submitting a claim.

The vouchers can also be used for selected airport experiences, including dining, sleep pods and spa facilities, and extend to as many as three travelling companions.

The partnership comes as flight disruption remains a significant challenge across the aviation sector. According to flight data cited by Collinson, almost 40,000 travellers in Taiwan experienced flight delays of more than one hour or cancellations during the first six months of 2026, with the majority of delays lasting between one and two hours.

Products such as SmartDelay illustrate the growing use of automated assistance models that provide immediate customer support when disruption occurs.

Rather than reimbursing expenses after travel, these services use live flight data to trigger benefits automatically, helping improve the customer experience while reducing administrative friction.

The announcement follows Collinson’s recent partnership with Holiday Extras to expand parametric flight disruption benefits.
