Aegis targets growing event-travel market with new cancellation coverage

Aegis Travel Insurance has introduced new travel protection designed for consumers who build trips around concerts, festivals, and sporting events, allowing them to recover prepaid, non-refundable travel costs if the headline event is cancelled.

The launch reflects the continued growth of experience-led travel, where travellers increasingly plan vacations around a single event rather than a destination. While ticket protection typically covers the cost of admission, it does not reimburse expenses such as flights, accommodation, and other trip costs if an event is cancelled.

“Modern vacations are increasingly driven by experiences, with more trips built around a single event,” said Jason Schreier, CEO of Aegis Travel Insurance. “Ticket insurance might refund the cost of a seat, but it doesn’t protect the thousands of dollars travellers often spend getting and staying there. When the event is the reason for the journey, your travel insurance should cover that.”

The insurer said the product launch comes as sports and music tourism continue to grow. Oxford Economics estimates around 1.24 million international visitors will have travelled to the US for the FIFA World Cup, while event cancellations and postponements have become more common across major sporting fixtures, concert tours, and Las Vegas residencies.

Aegis has incorporated the benefit into its Go Ready Priority Plus Plan, which includes event cancellation coverage alongside traditional trip cancellation benefits. If a covered ticketed event is cancelled, travellers may be reimbursed for eligible prepaid, non-refundable trip expenses, including air fare and accommodation.

The company said the product was intended to address a gap in traditional travel insurance for experience-driven travellers whose primary reason for travelling is a specific event.
