Medical escorts are a part of a mission. Why are they outside the system?

MedCube Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer Thorkild Lykke explains how MedCube addresses several pain points in the current workflow

Why is working with medical escorts still so manual?

Many assistance organisations use in-house escorts alongside resources from external providers. The coordinator must check availability across spreadsheets, emails, or calls to find an appropriate resource, send the request and secure acceptance.

Can internal escorts and existing external partners be managed together?

Yes. MedCube allows organisations to manage their own escorts and bring existing external partners into the same availability overview and operational workflow. They can continue working with existing providers while managing requests, assignments, communication and medical information in the platform. A key value during peak seasons when demand may exceed capacity.

How does the coordinator follow the mission as it develops?

Once the escort or provider responds, the coordinator has a clearer view of the mission progress. The team can see who is involved and what needs attention in one communication channel.

Updates to the patient’s condition, itinerary, pick-up arrangements or provider details are immediately available to all stakeholders. The coordinator can update the mission, and authorised participants can work from the information available to them instead of relying on forwarded messages or old attachments.

How does it assist the escort while travelling?

The escort receives all mission information in real time. They can review the destination, ground transport details and updated patient information as it becomes available. The mobile app provides a live link between all stakeholders.

Direct clinical calls remain essential whenever judgement or discussion is required

Any information from the escort back to the coordinator or other providers is also handled via the app. Updating the coordinator that the patient and escort have boarded the flight is a simple tap in the status update and it is immediately shown on the coordinator’s dashboard.

Is there a wider industry problem?

Yes. ITIJ’s recent article on the patient transport data gap described providers working from different versions of ‘what matters’. It argued for critical information that can be enriched as a case develops. MedCube applies that principle to the live mission through secure, role-based access.

Direct clinical calls remain essential whenever judgement or discussion is required. The structured workflow supports those conversations by reducing avoidable searching, repetition and version confusion. This allows the escort to concentrate fully on the patient’s medical needs, safety and comfort.

Does MedCube require organisations to replace their systems?

No. MedCube operates as a standalone platform or connects with existing systems. It is created by people with experience across medical assistance, patient transport, clinical work, technology and insurance. Organisations can retain proven procedures while reducing duplicate communication around them.

What is the gain for an organisation beyond one mission?

Leadership gains visibility, accountability and traceability across a sensitive process. Coordinators gain clearer oversight of escort availability, requests, acceptance and mission progress. The escort workflow is a practical starting point for MedCube’s wider connectedmission proposition: keeping current information, authorised people and required actions connected around each mission.
