ITIC is keeping the industry Connected
We bring you a taste of what's to come at this year's virtual global international travel and health insurance conference, which is just days away
2020 has been a year concerned with overcoming obstacles – and ITIC Global is no exception to this. With worldwide restrictions on travel, and having rescheduled many of this year’s conferences due to the ongoing pandemic, we had to think of an innovative way to bring everybody together for this year’s ITIC Global.
So, we’re proud to have taken on the challenge of 2020 and turned it into a positive part of ITIC history in the form of ITIC Global | Connected. For almost 30 years now, you have travelled far and wide to take part in our global conference, and to celebrate in the successes of the international travel and health insurance community. This year, we welcome you to sit back, as we bring ITIC Global directly to you.
While we’d like nothing better than to greet you in the foyer and send you on your way with a conference bag in hand, we’ve had to adapt to a new platform this year. But we still have plenty of exciting added-value extras for you this year, in addition to our dynamic line up of spotlights and sessions. We have still got your usual collection of conference materials - the attendee list sponsored by Latitude Air Ambulance, and the conference brochure courtesy of Anubis – all in eco-friendly PDF formats, of course. You’ll also be glad to know that you’ll still receive a full rundown of all conference happenings and discussions in the hallowed ITIC Review, which will be included in the December issue of ITIJ.
We have of course got industry experts talking about the impact of coronavirus on the industry, forums dedicated to medical assistance and provider networks, fraud insights and more. You can view the full agenda here.
But, ITIC is synonymous with networking, there’s no denying that, and Western Union’s ITIC Connected Networking App allows you to continue setting up meetings like you always have before. What’s more, with the addition of Zoom to our toolkit for the 2020 global conference, you’re no longer confined to the realms of the physical world for conducting business. Schedule a virtual meeting from your garden, while you’re taking your dog for a walk, or even while grabbing a coffee at your local café! ITIC Connected truly is bringing the conference to you this year.
Wellness theme
We’ve all read enough reports and experienced enough first-hand stress to know the toll that this year’s events have taken on our health and wellbeing. As such, we’ve placed your health and wellbeing as a priority at this year’s ITIC Global, and we are pleased to announce that we will be providing a specialist speaker, as well as an industry insight, on the topic of ‘wellness’ – all on Wednesday 4 November.
A live interactive webinar brought to you by Global Excel Management and featuring wellness expert César Gamio will explore a set of tried-and-tested best practices that will make the working-from-home experience enjoyable and productive. The workshop will cover everything from setting up the ideal working environment at home, to effectively dealing with isolation from work colleagues. An esteemed Executive Life Coach, Corporate Wellbeing Specialist and public speaker, César will leave you inspired and empowered to make positive change.
UnitedHealthcare talk and exercise challenge
In keeping with our health and wellness theme, UnitedHealthcare is presenting a talk from Kris Starthout on Thursday 5 November about how exercise can have a positive impact on mental health. Currently assisting with the Paratriathlon National Team and a presenter for the USA Triathlon Coaching Education Department, Kris served as the Official Age Group Coach for Team USA between 2010 and 2014 and accompanied them to the ITU World Championships around the globe.
In addition, UnitedHealthcare will also be running the ITIC Connected Exercise Challenge. Take part in this collective challenge to help us travel from London to Madrid before the 6 November – whether you run, walk, cycle, or crawl, we don’t care, but it’s up to you to help us reach our goal! Once again, let us entice you to submit a photo of your efforts using the tag #UHCChallenge – the funniest, most unusual and all-round greatest photo/activity submitted during the competition period will win a brand new apple watch using the tag #UHCChallenge.

We want your #WFH selfies in all their glory – extra points if you can get a furry friend involved! Don’t forget, there’s a complimentary registration to ITIC Madrid 2021 up for grabs!

European Air Ambulance – virtual tour of Madrid
Sponsored by European Air Ambulance, we invite you to go beyond the boundaries of your home office and experience Madrid in this informative and interactive Zoom tour around the city, with a fun and knowledgeable local guide. Highlighting the very best sightseeing spots, showcasing food and drink, plus insights on the people and places (as well as hidden tips and secrets!) – get excited for ITIC Madrid 2021!
Airlec sponsors the ITIC Connected virtual cocktail masterclass
It’s a shame not to be able to meet at the bar this year, but it’s high time you guys learned how to pour yourselves a drink. As such, and with compliments from Airlec, we’ve hired an award-winning mixologist to guide us through a cocktail masterclass on Thursday 5 November, so you can have a drink in hand ready for the advent of the 2020 ITIJ Awards. Attendees will receive a list of ingredients ahead of the masterclass – and no need to worry if you’re lacking the necessary cocktail equipment, our mixologist is creative and can help you substitute in other household items. No excuses. Learn how to shake, muddle and mix the perfect tipple – and who knows, it might be a handy trick to have up your sleeves the next time we all meet!
2020 ITIJ Awards
Before we announce the winners of this year’s ITIJ Awards, nib has been kind enough to provide some pre-awards entertainment. Comedian, musician and recent winner of Britain’s Got Talent (aren’t you a lucky lot) Jon Courtenay will join us on Zoom for a truly hilarious interactive show, including a special ‘ITIC song’. Don’t miss out on that.
And of course, to conclude the conference, the 2020 ITIJ Awards, which will be broadcast to you in the form of a stream this year at itij.com/awards, sponsored by New Frontier Group and hosted by ITIJ’s very own Editor in Chief Ian Cameron and Editor Sarah Watson.
