Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais, Vice President and CEO at Hospiten, tells us about the Group’s new opening in Madrid

Healthcare continues to take on an increasingly international dimension, driven by the mobility of patients and professionals, technological innovation, research, and a growing interest in attracting investment and talent.

Against this backdrop, Madrid (Spain) is uniquely positioned to establish itself as an international healthcare hub, leveraging the excellence of its healthcare system, the quality of its professionals, its capacity for research and innovation, its international connectivity, and the strength of its business ecosystem.

Madrid is a perfect location

All of this represents an opportunity to position Madrid as an international leader capable of attracting patients, professionals, researchers, companies, and investment, and of creating a competitive, innovative, and globally oriented healthcare ecosystem.

This international focus resonates deeply with us, our history, and our positioning

This international focus resonates deeply with us, our history, and our positioning. Hospiten is an international healthcare network with more than 55 years of experience that currently operates 20 private medical and hospital centres in Spain, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica, and Panama, as well as 175 outpatient medical centres under the Clinic Assist brand. Collectively, we treat more than three million patients annually and employ over 5,000 professionals, establishing ourselves as a key player in the provision of healthcare services and in building a healthcare ecosystem with an international focus.

With this focus, in November 2026, the Hospiten Madrid Boadilla hospital will open its doors in Madrid. With an investment of 200 million euros and a floor area of more than 55,000 square metres, the new facility will offer the community 45 medical specialties, with the goal of providing comprehensive and coordinated care. With 158 rooms, including private suites, a full-service emergency department, an ICU, a day hospital, outpatient clinics, and a surgical unit, the hospital will offer modern care supported by advanced diagnostic and treatment technology.

Thus, the project stands out for viewing innovation as a tool at the service of people. As a result, the cardiac catheterisation lab will enable minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiovascular procedures, while the diagnostic imaging area will incorporate state-of-the-art technology to facilitate faster and more accurate diagnoses.

Advanced technology for more precise and personalised medicine

Advanced technology will be one of the cornerstones of the new hospital, which will feature a surgical robot, MRI scanners, and Spectral CT scanners, in addition to advanced diagnostic imaging solutions. Complementing this technology is a commitment to artificial intelligence, with applications designed to optimise processes and streamline the work of healthcare professionals, freeing up their time so they can focus on what matters most: patient care.

Digitalisation will also be key to strengthening connected care. The interoperability of clinical information will improve continuity of care and facilitate more coordinated and personalised care within the Hospiten network.

Innovation will extend to sustainability, as the hospital will incorporate solutions such as geothermal heating, smart lighting control, and energy management systems designed to reduce the building’s energy consumption and environmental footprint.

Hospiten Madrid Boadilla was founded with the mission of becoming a next-generation hospital – a space where technology, knowledge, and a patient-centered approach come together to offer more precise, efficient, and personalised medical care. Innovation in healthcare is not just about incorporating the most advanced equipment, but about knowing how to use it to provide better care for patients.

In this, our biggest issue ever, our main focus is on artificial intelligence. After recent threats and warnings about the potential dangers of AI and calls for coordinated action to slow the technology's development, we speak to experts about the technology in a three-part special. We look at data-driven risk assessment, underwriting, and portfolio optimisation, which are all being transformed by AI, and ask what insurers and underwriters are doing to get the most out of the technology.
