New data from global travel insurer World Nomads reveals a marked shift towards more accessible destinations

According to a new study from travel insurance specialist World Nomads, policies for Europe experienced a significant surge over the summer, with policy sales nearly doubling (+99%) compared to the same period last year.

The standout destinations were Turkey (+225%) and Montenegro (+127%), both of which offer affordable and adventurous experiences. Spain (+43%) also remained a staple for UK travellers looking for sunny, and diverse experiences.

World Nomads’ data also shows an increase in demand for the Asian destinations of China (+86%) and Japan (+23%), driven by expanded visa-free policies and favourable currency conditions.

Jonathan Frankham, General Manager for World Nomads, UK and Europe, said: “Our data suggests that Brits are increasingly opting for European destinations that offer affordability and adventure without the need for long planning times. European destinations, especially Turkey and Montenegro, are providing the perfect balance of excitement and affordability.

“It’s interesting to see Asia performing strongly, likely due to updated entry requirements and more favourable exchange rates, especially in destinations like China and Japan.

“While the trends around destinations generally point to travellers looking for increased value, by opting for shorter haul destinations in Europe, purchasing the right travel insurance remains a prudent financial decision to protect that investment.

“Selecting the right type of policy depends on one’s own travel habits and needs. Where a single-trip policy may offer some travellers more flexibility and fewer restrictions on trip duration, other travellers may prefer the long-term cost effectiveness and convenience of an annual multi-trip (AMT) policy.”

World Nomads recently partnered with Collinson to enhance its travel insurance offering for UK and Ireland.
