Volcanic eruption causes flight disruptions in Indonesia
More than 150,000 passengers have been affected after operations were suspended at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport following the eruption
Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport was temporarily closed on Sunday morning after ash from the volcano Anak Krakatau was detected in airspace near the airport.
The volcano first erupted on Friday night, generating continuous seismic activity and lava fountains. Two more eruptions followed early on Sunday.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the disruption had so far impacted 712 flights. Routes most affected include those to and from Singapore, as well as other international flights to Doha, Sydney and Kuala Lumpur.
Recent data from passenger rights company AirHelp revealed that airlines rejected 58% of passenger compensation claims that the company assessed as eligible in 2025.
