US summer travel up 10% as Dublin and Seattle lead international and domestic demand

US travellers continue to book more summer trips despite economic pressure, with Allianz data showing a 10% rise in bookings and shifting destination trends across the US and Europe

Allianz Partners has reported a 10% year-on-year rise in summer travel itineraries among US travellers, signalling continued resilience in leisure demand despite persistent economic pressures and rising travel costs.

The travel insurance provider’s annual Summer Travel Destinations report found domestic trips continued to dominate, accounting for 73% of insured itineraries, while international travel represented 27% of bookings for the 2026 summer season.

Seattle retained its position as the top domestic destination for American travellers, followed by Orlando, New York City, and Las Vegas, underscoring sustained demand for major city breaks and leisure hotspots. Internationally, Dublin emerged as the leading overseas destination, ahead of Cancún and London, reflecting growing interest in European city breaks among US travellers.

The findings reflect a broader trend of consumers prioritising travel spending despite financial uncertainty, presenting continued opportunity for travel insurers as trip volumes rise and travellers seek protection against disruption during peak season.

“Travellers continue to make summer vacations a meaningful priority, despite ongoing uncertainty and rising travel costs,” said Emily Hartman, General Manager at Allianz Partners.

Allianz Partners said travellers were increasingly considering insurance at the point of booking to protect against cancellations, delays, baggage disruption, and medical emergencies. The company distributes travel insurance products through major US airlines, online travel agencies, cruise lines, hotel groups, and travel advisors.
