Tune Protect expands embedded travel insurance partnership with Airpaz

The agreement extends integrated flight-booking protection into three additional Southeast Asian markets, supported by a network of local insurance partners

Tune Protect Group has expanded its embedded travel insurance partnership with online booking platform Airpaz into Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines, extending an offering launched in Malaysia last year.

The expansion, delivered through the group’s reinsurance arm, Tune Protect Re, allows customers in all four markets to purchase travel insurance directly through the Airpaz website or mobile application when booking flights.

The partnership forms part of Tune Protect’s strategy to increase its travel insurance distribution across Southeast Asia, where online travel platforms provide insurers with opportunities to reach customers at the point of purchase.

The regional offering is supported by separate insurance partners in each market. Tune Protect Malaysia provides cover in Malaysia, while Oona Insurance Indonesia, Krungthai Panich Insurance, and Pioneer Insurance & Surety Corporation support the products in Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines, respectively.

The arrangement enables Tune Protect Re to expand its regional distribution footprint through locally established insurance providers.

Customers can purchase cover during the flight booking process, with policies issued digitally and coverage information accessible online. The offering also includes customer service and claims support channels.

Janet Chin, CEO of Tune Protect Re, said the expansion reflected the group’s focus on markets with growing traveller populations and increasing digital adoption. “These markets are important to us given their larger and growing traveller populations, strong digital adoption, and increasing demand for travel protection.”

Chin added that the company saw opportunities to extend the collaboration into further regional markets.

The partnership reflects the continuing development of embedded travel insurance distribution, with insurers increasingly working alongside online travel agencies and booking platforms to offer protection as part of the purchasing process.

Earlier this month, Thomas Cook announced it would partner with Cover Genius to introduce embedded travel insurance for UK customers, expanding the online travel agency’s ancillary offering.
