True Traveller reports surge in long-term family adventure travel for 2026
Data reveals a sharp rise in families with young children opting for extended, experience-led adventures
Specialist adventure travel insurer True Traveller has identified growing demand for long-term family adventure holidays in 2026, reflecting a wider shift towards more immersive and purposeful travel.
Whether it’s a safari, a trip to Australia, or a multi-stop itinerary, the company reports that families are increasingly opting for extended trips focused on shared experiences rather than traditional destination-based breaks.
“Our data shows that extended adventure trips aren’t only for those who have retired … since the pandemic years, we are noticing a real trend in families turning travel into a way to explore the world together,” said Managing Director Tim Riley.
Customer data reveals a marked rise in extended travel insurance policies taken out by families with children under 10. Between 2018 and 2025, the number of families travelling with young children on long-term trips increased by 163%. Growth accelerated after the pandemic, with family extended-travel policies rising by 67% between 2019 and 2024, and a further 35% increase in the year to 2025.
By comparison, extended worldwide policies purchased by individual travellers rose by 79% overall during the same period, indicating that family-led extended travel has outpaced solo growth significantly.
Tour operator Much Better Adventures recently identified India, Japan, and Jordan as its fastest-rising destinations for 2026.
