Travel insurance influences booking choices for 70% of insured US travellers

The agreement will bring travel protection into a platform used by more than 16,000 advisers, reducing friction in the insurance sales process

Travel Insured International (TII), part of Crum & Forster’s (C&F) Accident & Health Division, has partnered with travel technology company Tern to integrate travel insurance products directly into its booking and itinerary management platform.

The agreement will allow travel advisers and agencies using Tern to generate insurance quotations and offer coverage to customers without switching between systems or manually re-entering trip details.

The integration draws on customer and booking information already held within the platform, enabling advisers to present travel protection options as part of the itinerary-building process. Customers can then choose whether to purchase coverage.

Tern, which describes itself as an AI-powered operating system for travel advisers, is used by more than 16,000 advisers and agencies. Its users manage approximately US$2 billion in travel bookings annually, according to the company.

Barbra Taylor, President of TII, said: “As part of C&F, TII is advancing a broader travel insurance distribution strategy by integrating our protection into the platforms and workflows advisers already use every day.”

The partnership is designed to simplify insurance distribution by incorporating quotations into existing adviser workflows, reducing administrative requirements, and creating additional opportunities to offer protection during the booking process.

David Shull, CEO and Co-Founder of Tern, added: “By incorporating TII’s travel insurance plans directly into our platform, advisers can quote and offer coverage as a natural part of building each trip.”

The companies cited figures from the American Society of Travel Advisors indicating that US travel agencies sold nearly US$130 billion in travel in 2025, with approximately one-quarter of travel booked through agencies.

The agreement strengthens TII’s access to the travel adviser distribution channel as insurers increasingly seek to incorporate protection products into the digital platforms used by travel intermediaries.

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection and travel technology platform Travefy announced plans earlier this month to integrate insurance quotations and purchasing into travel advisers’ existing workflows.
