Travel Guard launches accessible travel safety hub
Research shows accessibility concerns deter 40% of travellers with accessibility needs, highlighting demand for better pre-trip support
Travel Guard, part of Zurich Cover-More, has launched an online resource hub to help travellers with disabilities plan and navigate trips more safely and independently.
The microsite provides expert guidance, videos, and practical resources covering accessible transportation, accommodation, and destinations.
Research commissioned by Travel Guard among 889 people with experience of accessibility needs highlights the scale of the challenge. Some 79% consider reliable accessibility information important when planning travel, while 40% have avoided a destination because of accessibility concerns. Meanwhile, 60% said they would travel more if accessibility barriers were removed.
“While many destinations have made progress, significant barriers remain. We want to help travellers anticipate accessibility needs and navigate their journeys more comfortably and independently,” said Rhonda Sloan, CMO, North America.
The hub addresses a broad range of needs, including mobility, vision, hearing, cognitive, and sensory considerations, as well as medical conditions such as allergies.
With the World Health Organization estimating that 1.3 billion people globally live with a significant disability, accessible travel represents a substantial market consideration.
For travel insurers and distribution partners, the findings highlight an opportunity to improve pre-trip support, helping customers make informed decisions and travel with greater confidence.
John Noel, the travel insurance and assistance industry pioneer who founded Travel Guard, recently died at the age of 78.
