Travel anxiety on the rise: top traveller concerns of autumn 2024
Squaremouth has highlighted key areas causing worry among travellers as we enter the new season
In a recent Squaremouth survey of more than 1,600 US travel insurance customers, 75% of respondents said they were more concerned about protecting their trip costs this autumn than in previous years. Rising concern may be attributed to the impending flu season, frequent airline disruptions and a record-breaking hurricane season.
1. Getting sick or injured while travelling
According to Squaremouth’s research, 64% of travellers reported that their biggest concern is getting sick or injured during their trip. Since many primary health insurance plans don’t provide international coverage, receiving medical treatment abroad can result in high out-of-pocket expenses.
2. Cancelling a trip
Squaremouth said that 16% of travellers reported they were most worried about having to cancel their trip prior to departure. With average autumn trip costs up 36% over last year to reach as much as US$8,056 per trip, travellers are growing increasingly concerned about protecting their trip investments.
3. Travel delays and missed connections
Research showed 10% of autumn travellers stated their primary concerns involve airport delays, missing a connecting flight or losing their luggage. While there’s no way to guarantee a flight will leave on time, travel insurance can help protect travellers financially and make delays more comfortable.
