Tourist speedboat explodes in Thailand
Six people have been injured after a speedboat exploded off the coast of Thailand near Phuket
The accident occurred near Maiton Island, where the boat had stopped to let passengers go swimming in the shallow water.
Flying debris was emitted by the blast, which caused a fire to rapidly spread on board.
According to the Phuket Information Centre, the boat was carrying 36 crewmembers and tourists at the time.
Most of the tourists on board were reportedly from Russia and Kazakhstan.
At least six people suffered injuries as a result of the explosion, including the boat’s skipper. Two experienced burns and were taken to hospital.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) recently updated its travel advice for the neighbouring country of Laos.
