THIA with biothreat intelligence BlueDot

The Travel Health Insurance Association of Canada (THIA) has agreed a deal with biothreat intelligence BlueDot to improve the industry’s decision-making capabilities

The partnership will give THIA members access to BlueDot’s platform, which offers ‘near real-time intelligence on important health threats emerging around the world’. The deal is intended to support its members in making ‘informed decisions to mitigate travel risks and preserve business continuity’.

The deal comes in the wake of the immense disruption caused to the travel sector by the coronavirus pandemic. In a statement, the THIA said: “As industries look to overcome the effects of the pandemic and inevitable future infectious disease threats, solutions that provide the foresight to help safeguard against such risks have become critical to strengthening organizational readiness and resilience.”

It added that access to BlueDot’s platform was a ‘valuable resource’ in mitigating the impact of similar events in the future.

“BlueDot Founder and CEO, Dr Kamran Khan, has spoken on multiple occasions to THIA members over the years. Our members know how insightful he is and there is great trust in BlueDot’s evidence and work,” said Michael Camacho, President of THIA. “The pandemic had a devastating impact on the travel sector and travel health insurance and this is the ideal time – while it is rebounding – to support our members to prepare for future outbreaks.”

Kristina van der Wal, Director for Sales and Marketing at Travelance spoke about her experiences operating in the Canadian travel insurance market in December’s ITIJ.
