Taiwan is advised to temporarily halt travel to Cuba
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned Taiwanese citizens of potential issues for those planning to enter Cuba
Taiwan’s foreign ministry has recommended that citizens avoid travelling to Cuba after individuals visiting with Taiwanese passports were denied entry to the country in December.
According to regulations, entry for Taiwanese passport holders with a valid visa and tourist card is currently allowed. However, recent cases have raised concerns over inconsistent information and Cuba’s non-recognition of Taiwan.
On 20 February, the ministry’s Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Cheng Li-cheng, said that it remains unclear whether visitors with Taiwanese passports will be accepted by Cuban customs, adding that the ministry is working to understand the situation.
According to reports, the foreign ministry is actively verifying entry policies and recommends that in the meantime travellers exercise caution, check the Cuban government’s official website, consult airlines, or wait for clearer guidelines before planning a trip to Cuba.
The Cuban government announced that from January 2023, all travellers must complete a digital form before travelling to the country.
