Flights to, from and within Italy are expected to be disrupted later this month, advises the Foreign Office

Workers in Italy are expected to carry out an eight-hour general strike across the country on 29 November.

The strike is a union response to the government’s new budget plans.

Both ground staff and baggage handlers are anticipated to be involved in the industrial action. Operations at Milan, Catania, Rome and further airports could be affected.

“A national general strike is planned for 29 November. If you are due to travel to Italy on this date, check with your travel provider how you may be impacted,” the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said in an update.

Around 50,000 workers are estimated to take part in the strike.

On the same day, WizzAir staff will walk out for 24 hours, potentially impacting flights across the country.

In August EasyJet cancelled 200 flights amid a cabin crew strike.
